The 812 participants’ responses to 24 questions show that authors aren’t totally satisfied with their publisher, but they’re not planning on leaving the industry.
- Authors call for better communication with publishers: The “DO You Love Your Publisher?” survey shows that authors want better communication, more pay, and more utilization of the authors’ skills for marketing purposes from their traditional publishers.

- More thinking about how author and publisher marketing collaboration should change: Based on the publisher satisfaction survey for authors, Mike Shatzkin concludes that agents are in control of the authors, publishers should ask for author feedback, authors need guidance, and publishers can do more little things to help sales.
- Please shut up: Why self-promotion as an author doesn’t work.: Social media marketing of book doesn’t pull in readers, it’s too pushy. People want to read books they hear about from friends and they want pretty covers, intriguing hooks, and authors who are kind and funny.
- Readings in the sky: a new frontier in book publishing?: Southwest Airlines’ initiative Artists on the Fly brings writers and musicians on some flights for entertainment purposes. The authors read from their books to their captive audience.
- Video Marketing for Publishers: How, Whether, When?: Video marketing for books are fairly familiar, and new apps like Meerkat and Periscope give more marketing opportunities, but multiple platforms aren’t as good as one platform that’s well done.
- Kindle for Android v4.11 Adds Popular Highlights, WordWise, Book Introductions, And More: The Kindle app’s newest version for Android has new features that can make it better for students. There’s also a new section for “About This Book.”
- 10 Rad Poetry Slam Videos You Must Watch: These 10 poetry slam videos cover topics on racial conformity, erotic fanfiction, chronic illness, education system failures, body image, social anxiety, feminism, masculinity, parenthood, and human interaction replacing technology.
- Wattpad Partners with SoundCloud to Add Soundtracks to eBooks: Wattpad’s newest Android app update lets Soundcloud clips be embedded in stories. It also should allow users to record their own soundtracks, but it appears that the new tools aren’t working for everyone who downloads the update.
- Tips for Writing and Selling Short Stories: People want to read shorter stories that are just as entertaining as long stories, but short stories can be hard to write for authors used to thinking more is better.
- Is technology making us better storytellers (video)?”: Technology lets everyone be a storyteller, and allows them to tell stories in new ways. Writers, artists and producers talk about the idea of whether or not technology helps or hinders storytelling.
