What I’ve Accomplished

When I made the decision to join Invictus, I couldn’t tell you what was going through my head. It was most likely some form of justification for the overdose of Brad King I was going to get between this project and the Transindy one I also decided to sign up for. I probably threw some “it’s going to be a great opportunity” pep talk into my head and ran with it.

All things considered, I’m glad I did.

For the first time I had a year of college that seriously challenged me. Previous semesters had been hard but nowhere near as crazy as this past year. Being a creative writing major meant I had multiple stories to work on. I had times where I was so overwhelmed that I had no idea what I was going to do. As hard as it is for me to admit, I struggled. But thanks to my dad I’ve been hard wired to work my ass off and do whatever is necessary to finish what I start. Oh, and you can’t do halfsies, you have to do the best you can. So despite the two page to-do lists and scribbled calendars with arrows and highlights, I buried myself and finished. The whole year was an exercise in growing up and trusting myself.

The feeling of being finished and seeing everything up online was fantastic. The moment that made it mean the world to me, though, was my dad coming home excited, getting his computer, and pulling up this site so he could read my story. Honestly, I won’t be able to top that feeling for a long time.
