When the Story isn’t Finished
Brad warned us about this.
Eventually, through edits, through revision, by giving yourself over to the process, the story emerges. Suddenly you get the language, the characters, the journey. You begin to show empathy.
The story has a time limit. In just a few weeks we’ll reach the end, and we’ll have to accept the story as it is. We’ll look back on these moments hoping we told the story the best we could. I’m looking down at my edits, thinking as I make each one that this might be the way it’s finally read.
Brad warned us that no matter how much of ourselves we put in, there would always be more. It seemed distant in January, and now seems so desperately close.
